About the Role of Financial Controller
As a senior executive in the Finance department based in Amsterdam, the Finance Specialist will be responsible for supporting finance and accounting activities primarily for the Benelux region, with occasional involvement in European-level tasks. They will participate in audits, finance projects, and collaborate closely with finance colleagues in shared service teams located outside the Netherlands.
In this role, you will prepare accounting entries and assist with or review standard accounting tasks. They will ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and year-end closes, and review prepayments and accrued expenses schedules. Their role will also involve preparing monthly variance analysis on P&L and balance sheet fluctuations, assisting in preparing the monthly management pack, and preparing monthly balance sheet reconciliations.
Additionally, the Finance Specialist will make incidental wire transfers, review monthly bank entries, and ensure the timely and accurate preparation of VAT returns. They will work closely with Accounts Payable and transactional shared service centers, assist in annual audit and statutory account preparation, and advise on analyzing and improving financial processes within the organization. Maintaining financial records in compliance with accepted policies and procedures, and performing ad-hoc administrative tasks and assignments as directed by the finance manager, will also be part of their responsibilities.
What do your bring with you?
The ideal candidate will have a Master’s degree in Accounting or Finance, and 3-6 years of relevant experience in a similar position, preferably in a multinational environment. Fluency in written and spoken English is essential, along with proficiency in MS Excel. Familiarity with PeopleSoft/Hyperion is a plus. Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and experience in auditing are preferred. Strong communication skills, excellent organizational skills, the ability to prioritize workload, and the ability to meet constant deadlines are also required.
